| The following information is a summary of recommended age groups based on skill level and goals for each league. Age groups are set forth in official Cal Ripken league rules. Please refer to Notes within each league description for additional information regarding placement of players. While a boy's age may require participation in the Minor and/or Major League tryouts, his ability will ultimately determine placement. For example, an 11 or 12 year old player in his first year of baseball, with little experience and knowledge of the game will be placed in the Minor League, where he can improve his skills, learn the fundamentals of the game and have a more positive experience. A 9 year old player with one or two years of experience and batting, throwing and fielding skills that far surpass the ability of others his age will be placed in the Minor league to provide a more positive experience for that player and to minimize the risk of harm to beginning players. Assessment of players during tryouts will be made by coaches and the EYBS Board. Placement of a player in a higher league, if a player so desires, is solely within the discretion of coaches and the Board. Requests to play in a lower league will be honored unless the player's batting and throwing skills pose a risk of harm to other players in that league. All boys with a league-age of 9 must try out for Minor League Division and all boys with a league-age of 11, not currently on a Major League Division Team, must try out for the Major League Division. |
